Not a bug

The variation (caro) was active (5 in a row whiteout any white one both sides)

This happended to me minutes ago. I was the administrator and the Caro-feature was not active!

As mentioned, Caro variant, which requires completely unblocked 5 in a row or overline (6 or more) to win the game, was active.
It's technically not a bug, however may be misleading due to the lack of explanation.
So I'll reclassify this as a suggestion for a description on table lobby and game screen.

why does this variant even exist, what is the purpose?

I'm sure it's used more often than not just to catch people out that otherwise think it's a standard game.

I think so and I asked the admins about it but the request was denied, so I proposed to add a description to clarify the option on table lobby screen and winning condition on the game screen itself.
