My interpretation would be that the damage you receive from breath of fire should not trigger shrink ray. It is not damage received from a claw but form a card.

Now in this case I had Robot.
so, I could stop damage by the use of energy

My opponent had (among other cards) Shrink ray and breath of fire.

My opponent rolled 2 claws

I used 2 energy cubes to stop the damage from the claws. but still got damage from breath of fire.
I should not receive a shrink ray token. But I did.

I think the problem lies in de the way the damage is resolved. The dice effect and card effect were added and then I could use robot effect to stop the damage

It should be split in to two actions so that it is clear which damage is stopped and if so, if shrink ray takes effect.

That would be my interpretation. But of course, I may be wrong.
