Are you sure that there was no block which you could buy for 0 coins?

If you're out of money, and there's no block you would be able to buy for 0 coins, you're supposed to get 2 coins for free, which ends your action. Selecting to buy 0 blocks from any quadrant should be how this is triggered.

Once you've turned the wheel, you will not be able to cancel the block purchase. You should however be able to cancel the block purchase if you had decided to NOT turn the wheel. It generally helps if you can describe in more detail what exactly you did.

To me, the 2 coins for free are only meant as an alternative for not being able to purchase blocks. If you can get blocks (whether turning the wheel or not), no coins for you!

I waited for boloni's question to be answered, then ended up checking the replay. There was a blue block for free. Case closed. (Agreed though that they look similar to green blocks.)

Right, that's what I said too - if you can buy any blocks at all, you're required to do so - and if you have turned the wheel, there's no cancelling anymore. And indeed at move 201 wiscolib could buy a blue block for 0 coins if he turned the wheel. If he chose not to turn the wheel, however, he could not buy anything - he should not earn 2 coins in that case according to the rules, but he's not allowed to choose to NOT turn the wheel.

So that's my only concern in this scenario: whether selecting the option "No" for turning the wheel (which was available to him!) would have left him in a dead end scenario. I can't tell that from the replay, since trying to interact with the wheel during replay produces server syntax errors.

I looked back at the implementation of Carrara: you choose to turn the wheel or not, and only then is it decided whether or not you should get the 2 coins for free.
I don't like this interpretation of this rule, but 1) it might be the right one since I got no complains about it 2) I prefer not to change it now that people got used to it.

This is a very bad user experience. As a game player we don't necessarily know that it is possible to buy a 0 cost block, so the game appears to be blocked with no way forward. It would be incredibly helpful to allow buying to be cancelled.
